The concern with the future transcends cultures, religions, social classes, and even historical moments. Nowadays, we find diverse ways to access future content across different groups—from the "sister" in a Pentecostal church with the gift of revelation to the fortune teller reading cards in her sacred space. The truth is that, unconsciously, we need to perform the movement of evaluating the past, feeling the sensation of the present, and capturing at least a flash of what the future might be. Astrology contains methods that go beyond the subjective gifts present in some practices and the generalizing daily horoscopes, as its techniques have been maintained and adapted across times and different peoples.

Interestingly, considering our organization on this planet in relation to other planets as an organization of complex adaptive systems—that is, each of us can be understood as a complex adaptive system (open, mutable, and influenceable)—it would not make sense to think that astrologically only we would be under the influence of the celestial bodies. We are a system within another larger system, specifically our planet Earth. Because we are within it, although we have our individual evolutionary path, we share a planetary path. One of the ways we have to understand this shared journey is through the movement that directs us toward different Eras.

According to Miller (2016), it is difficult to determine exactly when an era begins. Generally, for astrologers, an Astrological Era extends for over two thousand years. The precession of the zodiac underlying this operating principle, according to the author, was a discovery by the Greek astronomer Hipparchus of Nicaea (190 – 120 BC). Until now, it is considered that the Earth has already lived through six ages, although there is no precision as to when an age began or ended due to the vast time involved (around twenty-five thousand years).

The Era we are currently experiencing is the Age of Aquarius, following the Age of Pisces, in which we had a central figure of love and compassion, Jesus Christ. Although there is no consensus, according to Miller (2016), we can consider that the current Era began with the total solar eclipse that occurred in August 1999. How can we "believe" in what the supposed energy of Aquarius brings to our present-future? We need only look at our previous Era, evaluating what stood out historically and in different cultural movements. We can go further back, thinking of the Age of Gemini (6000 BC – 4000 BC), an energy closely linked to communication, where we see the emergence of language (first reports) and writing. We can also take into account what occurred in the Age of Aries (2000 BC to 1 AD), an energy of combat, dispute, and determination, with the Greek and Roman empires, etc. For this reason, we can already make some predictions about what awaits us in this new Era we are living.

According to Miller (2016), Aquarian energy tends to:

• a) bring a better sense of the collective, but one that does not nullify the individual;

• b) bring modifications to how social relations are built and maintained, as Aquarius brings change and innovation—marriages, for example, will not occur so much for economic interest, but rather for love, which will tend to be freer;

• c) alter the notion of time, as Aquarius governs the concept of time;

• d) increase the value of knowledge and its dissemination;

• e) bring considerable scientific advances—an era of computers upon computers, among others.

How can this entire issue of Eras and predictions enter the therapeutic setting if the practitioner is not an astrologer? In various ways. Firstly, since it involves transpersonal therapy, it is very likely that your patient has an interest in or knows Astrology very well. As a therapist, how will you listen and provide feedback if you haven't reflected on it? I can share the case of a patient of mine who always spoke of her premonitory dreams. In one session, she brought a curious dream that left her a bit startled. In the dream, she was on the street having a snack when she saw machines circling above, faster than helicopters, emitting a red light like a barcode reader. It was then she realized that everyone had a sort of code on their body (including herself) and those above "reading" people were police officers looking for criminals. This dream (or vision) of hers is not unlike what is present in one of Miller's predictions, in which she speaks of people carrying a chip and being observed by an artificial intelligence.

Finally, thinking about astrological predictions is by no means fanciful. It may not be the only way we have to understand and think about the future, but it is one of the most fascinating ones which, having accompanied humanity for centuries, is found in our imaginary—or, in Jungian terms, in our collective unconscious. Furthermore, it reinforces this complex nature present in the organization not only of our psyche but of the entire universe.

A importância das previsões astrológicas na Era de Aquário

A preocupação com o futuro ultrapassa culturas, religiões, classes sociais e até momentos históricos. Nos dias de hoje, encontramos em diferentes grupos meios diversos de acessar o conteúdo futuro, desde a irmã na igreja pentecostal com o dom da revelação até a cartomante fazendo a leitura de cartas no seu espaço sagrado. A verdade é que, inconscientemente, precisamos fazer o movimento da avaliação do passado, sentir a sensação do presente e captar um flash, pelo menos, do que seria futuro. A Astrologia contém métodos que vão além do dom subjetivo presente em algumas práticas e do horóscopo diário generalizante, pois suas técnicas têm sido mantidas e adaptadas em tempos e diferentes pessoas.

Interessantemente, pensando na nossa organização neste planeta em relação aos demais planetas como uma organização de sistemas complexos adaptativos, isto é, cada um de nós podendo ser entendido como um sistema complexo adaptativo (aberto, mutável e influenciável), não faria sentido pensar que astrologicamente apenas nós teríamos a influência dos astros. Somos um sistema dentro de outro sistema maior, pensando especificamente no nosso planeta Terra. Por estarmos dentro dele, embora tenhamos o nosso caminho evolutivo individual, compartilhamos um caminho planetário. Uma das maneiras que temos para entender esse trilhar conjunto está no movimento que nos direciona para diferentes Eras.

Segundo Miller (2016), é difícil conseguirmos determinar exatamente o início de uma era. Em geral, para os astrólogos, uma Era Astrológica se estende por mais de dois mil anos. A precessão do zodíaco subjacente a esse princípio em operação, segundo a autora, trata-se de uma descoberta do astrônomo grego Hiparco de Niceia (190 – 120 a.C). Até então, considera-se que a Terra tenha vivido já seis idades, embora não haja precisão do período em que a idade tenha começado ou terminado devido ao enorme tempo envolvido (por volta de vinte e cinco mil anos).

A Era que vivenciamos no momento é a Era de Aquário, posterior a Era de Peixes, na qual tivemos uma figura de amor e compaixão central, Jesus Cristo. Embora não haja consenso, segundo Miller (2016), podemos considerar que a atual Era tenha se iniciado a partir do eclipse total do sol que ocorreu em agosto de 1999. Como podemos "acreditar" no que a suposta energia de Aquário traz para o nosso presente-futuro? Basta olharmos para a nossa Era anterior fazendo uma avaliação do que se destacou historicamente e, também, em diferentes movimentos culturais. Podemos ir mais para trás, pensando na Era de Gêmeos 6000 a.C – 4000 a.C), uma energia muito ligada à comunicação, na qual temos o surgimento da linguagem (primeiros relatos) e da escrita. Podemos também levar em consideração o que ocorreu na Era de Áries (2000 a.C a 1 d.C), energia de combate/disputa/determinação, com os impérios grego e romano, etc. Por essa razão, podemos já fazer algumas previsões do que nos espera nesta nova Era que vivenciamos.

Segundo Miller (2016), a energia de aquário tende: a) a trazer um melhor senso de coletivo, mas que não anula o individual; b) modificações na maneira que as relações sociais são construídas e mantidas, pois aquário traz mudança e inovação – casamentos, por exemplo, não ocorrerão tanto por questão de interesse econômico, mas sim por amor, que tenderá a ser mais livre; c) haverá alteração da noção de tempo, pois aquário governa o conceito de tempo; d) o conhecimento – a sua difusão – receberá mais valor; e) avanços científicos consideráveis – uma era de computadores e computadores, entre outros.

Como toda essa questão de Era e previsões pode entrar no setting terapêutico se quem atende não é um astrólogo? De diversas maneiras. Primeiramente, por se tratar de terapia transpessoal, é bem provável que o seu paciente tenha interesse ou conheça muito bem a Astrologia. Como você como terapeuta escutará e dará o seu retorno se não refletiu a respeito? Posso contar o caso de uma paciente minha que falava sempre dos seus sonhos premonitórios. Em uma das sessões, ela trouxe um sonho curioso que a deixou um pouco assustada. No sonho, ela estava na rua lanchando quando viu do alto máquinas rondando, mais velozes que helicópteros, passando uma luz vermelha como aquela que lê código de barras. Foi quando ela se deu conta que todos tinham uma espécie de código no corpo (incluindo ela) e aqueles que estavam acima "lendo" as pessoas eram policiais procurando criminosos. Esse sonho (ou visão) dela não é diferente do que está presente em uma das previsões de Miller, no qual ela fala das pessoas portando um chip e sendo ali observadas por uma inteligência artificial.

Por fim, pensar em previsões astrológicas não é de nenhuma maneira fantasioso. Pode não ser a única maneira que temos para entender e pensar o futuro, mas é uma das mais fascinantes que, por ter acompanhado a humanidade há séculos, se encontra no nosso imaginário, ou, em termos junguianos, no nosso inconsciente coletivo. Ademais, ela reforça essa natureza complexa presente na organização não só da nossa psique, mas de todo o universo.
